Hardworking, studious, and chivalrous to all women, Takamichi works in the palace archives in Kyou. He becomes one of the Eight Guardians, as Byakko of Heaven (天の白虎?)

He regards Akane as someone truly precious to him. He is always concerned about her well-being and is attracted to her. Although in the anime he is afraid to admit that he is harboring feelings other than those allowed by his duty and sometimes clashes with Tachibana no Tomomasa when he asks about his true feelings for Akane. In his ending, Takamichi stays with her and finally reveals his true feelings to her.
